Whiskey, Sugar, Bitters

Tools:
Mixing Glass
Hawthorne Strainer
Bar Spoon
Rocks Glass
Ingredients:
2 oz bourbon (Basil Hayden, Knob Creek, Michter's)
5 dashes Angostura bitters
2 dashes orange bitters (optional)
1 bspn simple syrup
Orange Peel
Luxardo Cherry (optional)
Process:
Add sugar, bitters, then bourbon into a mixing glass. Add cubed ice and use your long handled barspoon to stir 10x clockwise & 10x anti-clockwise. Use your Hawthorne strainer to pour your cocktail over a single, clear cube in a rocks glass, preferably cut crystal. Add garnish and enjoy.
Garnish:
Orange Peel Zest
For the pyros, take out your lighter and lightly toast the outside of the peel, then with two fingers, pinch the peel so the oils create a burst of flame. Pyrotechnics are always fun.Twist the peel as you circle the glass rim to release the oils along the entire circumference. Drop the twisted peel into the class, preferably upright…at least for the first drink. For those to enjoy the sweeter side of life, add a Luxardo cherry and don't be surprised by your sudden desire for Coltrane.
